About The Position

At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we dont just build infrastructure we build life-changing infrastructure. As a privately owned, employee-owned civil contracting firm, we perform work across public and private markets, specializing in site development, underground utilities, roadway, and water/wastewater treatment plant construction throughout the Southeast. Were seeking a Survey & AutoCAD Technician to support both field and office operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of construction layout, field data collection, and CAD drafting transforming raw survey data into reliable, accurate deliverables that keep projects moving.

Requirements

  • 12 years of field survey experience (construction layout, utilities, or civil site work preferred).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).
  • Experience with GPS and total station equipment (Trimble or Topcon preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.
  • Professional attitude and commitment to teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing as-builts or survey documentation.
  • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyJob or similar construction software.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process field data for layout, grading, utilities, and as-built verification.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
  • Assist survey crews and ensure seamless coordination between field and office teams.
  • Verify site conditions and communicate discrepancies promptly.
  • Build and manage job files in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, points, and linework.
  • Prepare high-quality deliverables such as as-built drawings, layout maps, and control plans.
  • Maintain CAD standards and file organization as directed by the Survey Manager and Senior Survey Technician.
  • Support digital documentation workflows for survey and construction teams.
  • Interpret construction drawings, elevations, and specifications to ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with field teams, engineers, and project managers.
  • Assist in improving survey workflows and implementing best practices.
  • Support project planning with timely, accurate data.
