About The Position

TMMG is seeking an AutoCAD Technician to support the Engineering Design Team (EDT), which provides engineering design services to Military Sealift Command (MSC), the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and commercial maritime operators. The AutoCAD Technician’s primary mission is to produce, update, and maintain accurate, high-quality marine design drawings (mechanical, structural, and electrical) that support shipboard operations, shipyard installations, modernization efforts, troubleshooting, and equipment commissioning. This role supports a multi-discipline engineering team (Naval Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Automation, and Marine Designers) operating under TMMG’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, with expectations to meet schedules, maintain disciplined configuration control, and deliver drawings that achieve high first-time acceptance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CAD Certification (AutoCAD) or equivalent demonstrated proficiency.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience producing marine AutoCAD drawings (mechanical, structural, and/or electrical).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Confidential security clearance, CAC, and satisfy background investigation requirements.
  • Company background investigation, U.S. Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances, and CAC eligibility are required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ShipAlt / TRANSALT drawing updates and controlled drawing release packages.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001:2015 quality environment.
  • Prior experience incorporating ship check redlines and producing final as-built AutoCAD drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and update marine drawings in AutoCAD including plans, sections, details, diagrams, and installation drawings supporting ship alteration, modernization, and repair design packages.
  • Convert engineering sketches, markups, and redlines into accurate, properly scaled CAD drawings consistent with TMMG and customer drafting standards.
  • Convert PDFs, Excel files, scanned drawings, and legacy formats into clean, layered, properly scaled AutoCAD (.dwg) files suitable for controlled release.
  • Support drawing updates driven by ship checks, engineering changes, and design revisions.
  • Support ship checks by preparing drawing packages for field use.
  • Incorporate returned redlines and field notes into updated AutoCAD deliverables.
  • Maintain strong discipline in as-built accuracy, ensuring drawings reflect verified field conditions and approved engineering intent prior to release.
  • Apply configuration control practices including revision history, clouding, title block updates, drawing logs, and controlled release package completeness.
  • Maintain organized project folder structures so current and prior revisions can be quickly retrieved by engineering and project leadership.
  • Coordinate with Project Leads to ensure drawing packages align with project scope, schedule, and customer deliverable requirements.
  • Support drawing development in accordance with EDT expectations to meet applicable ABS, NAVSEA, and USCG requirements as directed by engineering.
  • Participate in internal quality checks to ensure drawings meet TMMG drafting standards and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Perform disciplined self-checks including scale, dimensions, layers, lineweights, notes, callouts, tags, and consistency across drawing sets.
  • Collaborate daily with engineers and designers across electrical, mechanical, structural, systems, automation, and naval architecture disciplines.
  • Support coordination of interfaces such as penetrations, equipment footprints, routing constraints, and access/clearance notes as directed by engineering.
  • Track personal labor hours against assigned work packages.
  • Maintain awareness of drafting progress versus schedule and communicate status to the Project Lead Engineer / Lead Design Engineer.
  • Provide early notification of potential delivery risks, rework drivers, or sequencing conflicts.
  • Maintain awareness of drawing dependencies across disciplines (e.g., structural changes affecting electrical routing).
  • Prepare plots, PDFs, and drawing packages for customer submittals and reviews.
  • Support additional EDT mission areas as assigned, including shipboard operations support, technical troubleshooting documentation, installation packages, and commissioning documentation.
