About The Position

Environmental Intellect (Ei) is seeking a Survey & 3D Scanning Technician to join their remote-first, globe-trotting crew. This role involves traveling to Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and industrial facilities to capture real-world environments using survey equipment, mobile mapping systems, and 3D laser scanners. The position requires approximately 80-90% travel, with potential for working at height and offshore. The ideal candidate is adventurous and prefers dynamic work environments over a traditional desk job.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Pass required background screening, physical, and drug testing.
  • Meet client-specific site access and random drug/alcohol testing requirements.
  • Willing and able to travel 80-90%.
  • Able to safely work in active industrial environments, including walking large facilities, carrying equipment, working at height, and working outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Experience with survey control and benchmarks.
  • Experience with traversing and control loops.
  • Experience with GPS and level loops.
  • Experience with coordinate systems.
  • Experience with total stations and field data collection.
  • Understanding of accuracy, precision, and QA/QC.

Nice To Haves

  • Drone experience.
  • FAA Part 107 certification or commercial UAS operations.
  • Experience with industrial, infrastructure, mapping, or inspection flights.
  • Experience with photogrammetry, aerial mapping, orthomosaics, or 3D reconstruction.
  • Experience using survey/ground control with drone data.
  • Experience integrating aerial data with terrestrial scanning or point clouds.
  • Experience planning safe missions around industrial structures, obstacles, airspace, and site restrictions.
  • 3D laser scanning or reality capture experience.
  • NavVis VLX or other mobile mapping/SLAM experience.
  • Static laser scanning or point cloud processing.
  • Survey certifications, licenses, or formal training.
  • CAD, GIS, or photogrammetry experience.
  • Oil & Gas, refinery, petrochemical, or industrial experience.
  • Offshore or international field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and work from survey control, benchmarks, traverses, control loops, and coordinate systems.
  • Operate mobile 3D scanning systems, including the NavVis VLX.
  • Set up and operate static terrestrial laser scanners.
  • Plan scanning routes and capture strategies for complex industrial environments.
  • Perform field QA/QC to identify gaps or issues before leaving the site.
  • Process, register, and review reality capture and point cloud data.
  • Collaborate with Ei's CAD, engineering, implementation, and software teams.
