About The Position

Amentum is seeking several Field Support Technicians (FSTs) to support the Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) program. This position is based at JEB Little Creek, Virginia Beach, VA, and requires domestic and international travel as needed. FSTs are vital team members who ensure SURTASS systems are ready and operational at all times. The position may require the ability to perform in an arduous environment and pass a mariner’s Physical per COMSCINST 6000.1.c, maintaining medical fitness for the position. This role also requires a valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain an international driving permit.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or technical related field with five or more years of experience. Additional years of experience, training, and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Currently possess DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance level upon hire.
  • Possess or ability to obtain a valid U.S. passport.
  • Thorough understanding of COTS maintenance requirements, and open architecture implications as well as, understanding of the administration of the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M).
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and provide training to shipboard assigned electronic maintenance technicians.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an international driving permit to drive on the left side of the road if needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of US Navy electronics “C” school or equivalent civilian electronics technical school. Curriculum must have dealt directly with industrial maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of communications systems, navigations systems, and sonar surveillance systems.
  • Fours (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of SURTASS ARRAYS which includes: TL-29A Twin-line, Low Frequency Active (LFA), Compact Low Frequency Active (CLFA) and High Frequency Marine Mammal Mitigation Sonar (HFM3).
  • Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of the SURTASS PROCESSING SUBSYSTEMS which includes: ICP, UNIX based processing systems, LINUX, Windows, GCCS-M, GPS (Commercial and MIL-STD) & SURTASS COMMS SUBSYSTEMS which includes: SHF, UHF SATCOM and LOS, HF, IFF, SECURE VOICE and DATA CRYPTOs, CMS, EKMS, KMI, SIPRNET, ADNS/CFCP, SIPR and NIPRNET.
  • Experienced in civilian and/or military operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for SURTASS mission systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and system restoration. Document all activities in detailed reports.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and repairs on SURTASS mission equipment and pier-side gear while documenting all work.
  • Complete hardware/software installations, test system performance, and verify readiness.
  • Log maintenance actions in the Job Sequence Number (JSN)/Military Sealift Command (MSC) Work Request (WKRQ) system, ensuring thorough documentation of labor, resources, and time used.
  • Review and suggest updates to technical manuals, publications, and maintenance procedures to improve accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Conduct TL-29A system grooming and module balancing as part of routine maintenance.
  • Deliver in-port refresher training to shipboard technicians and ensure proper documentation.
  • Be available 24/7 to handle urgent technical issues and minimize downtime.
  • Keep system records updated, review technical changes, and assist with implementing new equipment or updates.
  • Work closely with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) crews, technical authorities, government representatives, and contractors.
  • Be prepared for CONUS and OCONUS travel, including short-notice assignments and up to 3-month deployments.
  • Work on ships at sea, rotating shifts, and hours exceeding 40 per week as needed.
