About The Position

Lanier Technical College – Hall County campus is conducting a search for a full-time, salaried, FLSA-exempt, benefit-eligible position. This role serves as both the Program Director and Instructor for the Surgical Technology Program, providing leadership and instruction. A background check, professional reference check, and potentially a post-hire clinical-site specific background check and 11-panel drug screen are part of the selection process. Requirements

  • Associates degree in Surgical Technology from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist through a national certifying credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Five (5) total years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten (10) years.
  • Ability to assist the Dean by providing leadership and with the development and execution of the operational plan for the Surgical Technology program.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and professional attire.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, and juggle multiple & competing priorities.
  • Ability to supervise students in the classroom.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans.
  • Ability to direct and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies.
  • Ability to observe and mentor faculty.
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for license agency, accreditation agencies, and the college.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster professional relationships within the college’s service area.
  • Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Teaching experience in a health science related field at the postsecondary level.
  • Experience teaching with Blackboard LMS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and instruction for the Surgical Technology Program.
  • Provide leadership in the discipline to ensure the quality and success of the department.
  • Work with faculty to promote continuous improvement in the quality of instruction within the Surgical Technology program.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on course offering rotations and scheduling recommendations for submission to the Dean of Allied Health.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on instructional program planning and curriculum review, to include probe response reporting.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on Surgical Technology program budgetary requests.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on program advisory committee meetings and documentation.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on accreditation and compliance documentation and administrative reports as requested.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on hiring, on-boarding, and orientation of faculty for the Surgical Technology program.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on textbook and instructional material selection.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on Student Learning Outcome documentation of assessment, data, and use of results.
  • Coordinate, collect, and submit input from program faculty on program marketing and recruitment efforts.
  • Develop program and course outlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Prepare lesson plans.
  • Evaluate student progress.
  • Maintain program certification requirements as appropriate.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports.
  • Teach Surgical Technology courses in a classroom/lab/field environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry, while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Provide instruction in the theory and practical applications of Surgical Technology, and evaluate learning outcomes for continuous student and program success.
