Surgical Technologist - Full Time
About The Position
Shriners Children's is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join their team. This is a full-time, non-exempt, and benefits-eligible position. Requirements
- Current Surgical Technologist certification required
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association required
Nice To Haves
- Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery
- Minimum six (6) months experience in an orthopedic surgical area preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures.
- Assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.
- Create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies.
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
- Provide visualization of the operative site.
- Independently pull cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists.
- Update and review lists, making changes as necessary.
- Review cases and equipment prior to the start of the case.
- Ensure scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suite.
- Determine and document efficacy of equipment.
- Records reflect accurate description of operations, sterilization, and use of equipment.
- Attend in-service on new equipment and complete competency evaluations.
- Operate and maintain equipment used within the department.
- Apply principles of sterile technique.
- Utilize knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures, and hospital policies.
- Apply knowledge of surgical principles of decontamination, sterilization process, and operation of flash and steam autoclaves and washer decontamination.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Multitask and utilize constructive consideration when working with families, patients, coworkers, and physicians.
- Encourage and enforce a safe environment for patients and coworkers.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
