About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values; adheres to its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program; and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The role facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with 4–5 call requirement shifts within a six-week period.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Obtain Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within twelve months of hire.
• CPR – Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the surgical operating suite with drapes, medications, solutions, instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies, and ensure equipment and instruments are available and functional.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
• Pass instruments to the physician during surgery and continually account for the number and location of instruments and supplies.
• Receive and process specimens, when required, for delivery to the laboratory.
