As a Surgical Technologist, your top priority is a safe surgery for every patient. You are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring instrumentation and equipment are available for the surgeon, and assisting the circulating nurse with patient positioning, operative site preparation, care of operative specimens, and room turnover. You will establish and maintain an organized sterile field, use proper sterilization methods for instruments, understand asepsis and take corrective action when unsafe practices occur, and prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures. You will follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and counting, perform the role of first scrub on basic surgical cases, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon by assisting with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation, and cutting suture.
