About The Position

As a Surgical Technologist, your top priority is a safe surgery for every patient. You are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring instrumentation and equipment are available for the surgeon, and assisting the circulating nurse with patient positioning, operative site preparation, care of operative specimens, and room turnover. You will establish and maintain an organized sterile field, use proper sterilization methods for instruments, understand asepsis and take corrective action when unsafe practices occur, and prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures. You will follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and counting, perform the role of first scrub on basic surgical cases, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon by assisting with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation, and cutting suture.

Requirements

  • Minimum Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA)
  • Previous experience as a surgical technologist

Responsibilities

  • Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
  • Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
  • Use proper sterilization methods for instruments prior to procedures.
  • Understand asepsis and the standards and techniques to addressing asepsis and takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks occur.
  • Prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures.
  • Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.
  • Perform the role of first scrub on basic surgical cases.
  • Anticipate the needs and assists the surgeon with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation and cutting suture.
