About The Position

The Mass General Outpatient Surgical Center in Waltham is seeking a Surgical Tech to join the team. This role involves scrubbing for surgical procedures and performing other duties related to the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment, as well as assisting with the peri-operative care of patients. The position is Monday through Friday, day shift.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting: 2-3 years required.
Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.

Nice To Haves

Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting.
Committee and leadership experience.
Certified Surgical First Assistant [CSFA (NBSTSA)] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in operations under supervision.
May help set up the operating room.
Prepares and transports patients for surgery.
Adjusts lights and equipment.
Passes instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants.
Holds retractors.
Cuts sutures.
Helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
Attains extra supplies and equipment as needed.
Sets up equipment independently.
Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
Monitors and continually assesses operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
