This is an entry-level position for new surgical technologist graduates who are currently in the orientation process. The role involves providing patient and employee safety at all times, utilizing safe practices and procedures in surgical patient care, and identifying and escalating potential safety issues. The technologist will review surgery plans, prepare for procedures, and demonstrate the technical skills and decision-making abilities required for optimal surgical patient care. Cost-effective provision of supplies and equipment is a focus, utilizing the surgical plan as a resource for implants and supplies. The position requires basic working knowledge of technology, computers, electrical safety, and robotic equipment, as well as an understanding of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology related to whole organ transplantation and the vascular system. The role also involves engaging in a safety culture, complying with regulatory requirements, participating in shared governance and process improvement activities, and maintaining individual certifications and Safety College requirements. Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, constructive conflict resolution, and support for an atmosphere of cooperation, respect, and trust are essential. The technologist must also exhibit advocacy and moral agency, working on behalf of the patient and family, making ethical decisions, representing the patient when necessary, and assessing cultural inclusion to incorporate culturally various concepts into patient care. Escalation for assistance in difficult situations is expected.
