About The Position

This role involves assisting during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. The position also participates in unit activities aimed at assuring high levels of quality patient care and functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist is required.
  • Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado required.
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days the necessary computer skills to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technologies for invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, while adhering to AORN standards.
  • Maintain and check all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal integrity, and expiration dates, ensuring a safe operating room environment and proper equipment functionality to maximize patient safety.
  • Monitor sterile field for potential contaminants and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Work towards competence with Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Exhibit flexibility while delivering individualized care within the scope of practice.
  • Communicate effectively and participate fully in the perioperative team’s Time Out Process, including briefings and debriefings.
  • Assist team members with patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
  • Model professional behavior, including keeping updated on new technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Demonstrate the principles of a Just Culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
