About The Position

We are seeking a Surgical Tech to join our awesome team! This position will float between our McKinney and Grapevine locations.

Requirements

  • If not OSA certified, will gain certification within 24 months.
  • Minimum High School or equivalent.
  • Current BCLS Certification and must maintain BLS certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.

  • Well organized and attentive to detail.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual surgical procedure.
  • Demonstrates competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.
  • Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
  • Sets up, scrubs and prepares procedures at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled time, unless otherwise directed by the Surgeon, Circulating Nurse or Team Leader.
  • Performs services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction of the Surgeon or Circulating Nurse or Team Leader.
  • Always maintains an orderly and sterile instrument table for purposes of efficiency; follows department standard set up.
  • Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles); follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to Circulation Nurse and surgeon and/ or corrects immediately.
  • Carries out medical/ surgical asepsis during treatment/ procedures.
  • Follows an aseptic technique, when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
  • Maintains safe environment for patient, co-workers and self, per ASC policies and procedures.
  • Checks all equipment/ instruments needed, prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning.
  • Protects patient’s sensitivities and right to privacy; closely observes patient with minimal disturbance.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/ health care errors to include proper patient identification and surgical site verification.
  • Anticipates needs of surgeon during intraoperative phase.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies, when necessary and organizes effectively for end of case clean up.
  • Is responsible for care of instruments/ equipment during intra/postoperative phase, including cleaning and processing of instruments.
  • Follows written procedures for steam sterilization; knows responsibilities and the necessity for chemical and biological monitoring.
  • Consults with team when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedure.
  • Regularly collaborates with other members of the nursing team to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Will cross train to multiple areas in the ASC such as, post-op, pre-op, sterile processing, laser equipment and other assigned duties within scope of practice.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family.
  • Provides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances, as necessary.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed professional when patient complains of pain.
  • Adapts procedures to meet individual needs of adult patients for treatment.
  • Treats patients and their families with respectful and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/ spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Able to interpret data about the patient’s status to identify patients age specific needs and provide care needed by appropriate age demographic patient group.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with coworkers for the patient benefit.
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment within the operating room technicians scope of practice.
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of assigned case and instruments and/ or trays to be pulled for the procedure.
