About The Position

The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The Surgical Technologist possesses knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and is able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. The Surgical Technologist utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation and technology as member of the surgical team. Candidates may be considered for placement into either the Surgical Technologist or Advanced Surgical Technologist role based on years of experience, specialty training, and meeting the qualifications of the higher-level position. The Advanced Surgical Technologist expands on this foundation by supporting complex procedures, such as cardiothoracic, transplant, neurosurgery, and vascular and by contributing to protocol development, specialty instrumentation management, and workflow optimization for advanced surgical service lines.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Minimum 2+ years of independent scrubbing experience (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
  • Independently supports advanced procedures in one of the following specialties: cardiac, transplant, neurosurgery, or vascular, or has cross-trained to work independently in three or more specialties outside of these advanced areas (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of surgical tech experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.

  • Handling emergencies that may include quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
