Position Summary Under assessment and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or physician and according to established policies and procedures, assists surgeons with instrumentation in performing various, complex technical surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Job requires the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide age-related care from infants through geriatric population. Must possess interpersonal skills to effectively interact with hospital staff, offices, patients, families and guests. Accountable to the patient and family for care provided, and to the director of surgical services for the totality of work performance. Meets all standards and requirements of the LMH universal job description

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Surgical Technology required.
  • Attend all mandatory in-inservices
  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of instrumentation used in the OR suite
  • Protect equipment from damage due to improper handling or use troubleshoot equipment problems
  • Obtain and prepare supplies and equipment by physician preference for each case
  • Verify surgical site per protocol
  • Verify and label all medication from circulator on surgical field
  • Accurately collect and label tissue and surgical suites
  • Assist in maintaining clean equipment and surgical suites
  • Stocks rooms and returns unused supplies daily
  • Policy & Procedure revisions assigned
  • Use standard precautions
  • Safe operation of all electrosurgical and power equipment
  • Demonstrate knowledge and consistent practice of sterile technique
