This position requires a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. The Surgical Technologist assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures. They also assist the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens. The role involves performing duties according to department policy and procedure, monitoring surgical supplies for sterility and judicious use, and accurately documenting charges. Additionally, the technologist monitors and documents sterilization activities, attends in-services and staff meetings, and participates in the Performance Improvement Process. Educational opportunities are utilized to increase competency, and the technologist may assist in developing policies, procedures, and standards. This role may also involve serving as a preceptor and clinical resource to others, and assisting with clinical projects.
