About The Position

The Surgical Technologist works in a novice role and requires close supervision by a mentor or experienced personnel due to limited or lack of clinical experience. As an integral member of the surgical team, the technologist works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care under supervision before, during, and after surgery. Duties include preparing the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies; positioning and preparing patients for surgery; and passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to the surgeon. The role supports Bridgeport Hospital’s patient-centered approach to coordinated, quality medical care. Employees are expected to uphold the organization’s values of integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion. The technologist performs patient-care and asepsis practices, assists with surgical procedures, and completes assigned non-therapeutic functions under the direction of a physician, physician assistant, advanced practice registered nurse, or registered nurse.
