About The Position

The Nursing Support (NS) colleague (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures. Note: “patients” refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school, in process of completing a GED, or has obtained high school diploma or GED; Meets requirements for applicable state(s) of engagement.
  • Valid driver’s license where required by assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and sets up the operating room, including equipment, instruments, sterile table, and required supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Ensures sterility and aseptic technique throughout the case, including checking equipment and packages, maintaining sterile fields, and addressing any breaks in technique.
  • Assists with patient preparation, including positioning, bed/fracture table setup, and draping.
  • Manages intraoperative responsibilities, including maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles, and properly handling specimens.
  • Provides procedural support and communication, including responding to emergencies (e.g., C-sections), operating specialty equipment, and giving report to relief staff.
