About The Position

The Surgical Technologist position at University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center OR Team is the first level in the Surgical Technologist career ladder. This role involves providing safe, efficient, and age-specific nursing care to patients and their families, assisting them in achieving optimal health status. The technologist will function in a primary scrub role, supporting the operative team with technical responsibilities during surgical procedures. Key duties include ensuring the availability and proper condition of instruments and supplies, accurately labeling medications on the sterile field, and adhering to patient care handoff protocols. The position also requires active participation in quality improvement initiatives and a commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement. Additional responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards, and maintaining the security and privacy of Protected Health Information (PHI) through annual training and adherence to UH policies.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program (Required)
  • Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures. (Required proficiency)
  • Use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies. (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and work in a team environment
  • Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)

Nice To Haves

  • Certification preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.
  • Provide patient care/function in a primary scrub position.
  • Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
  • Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
  • Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field.
  • Support the operative team, includes following patient care hand off protocol.
  • Actively participate in the quality improvement process.
  • Involved in learning and self-improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
