About The Position

The Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team as a primary scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment used in a specialized area during surgical procedures. The role requires constant vigilance to maintain the sterile field and modeling behavior consistent with Methodist’s mission, vision, and values. The position supports patient care through service, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.

Requirements

• Technical degree or diploma in Surgical Technology.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
• Certified Surgical Technologist certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Ability to communicate verbally with coworkers, physicians, and outside professional staff.
• Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of workflow.
• Basic arithmetic skills and ability to read and follow written instructions at a high-school-completion level.
• Ability to problem-solve in relation to the procedure being performed.
• Ability to apply sterile technique during surgical procedures.
• Ability and desire to learn and practice clinical competencies of the Surgery Tech.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in Surgical Technology.
• Tech in Surgery (TS-C) certification from the National Center for Competency Testing.
• No prior work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform scrub duties to assist the physician or surgeon during surgical procedures.
• Maintain the sterile field and apply principles of aseptic technique.
• Manage supplies and equipment effectively, plan work, and complete responsibilities efficiently and productively.
• Demonstrate professional behavior and excellent customer service in interactions.
• Participate in orientation and training to attain competency in complex cases and achieve Level II.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
