Twinsburg Family Health & Surgery Center’s Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) offers advanced outpatient surgery that allows patients to return home soon after their procedure without the need for overnight stays. Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs”, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses and ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining a sterile field. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of functions, such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing appropriate counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments to the surgeon and assistant during the procedure, prepare sterile dressing and clean instruments for terminal sterilization. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) required
  • Completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Certified Tech in Surgery, (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.

Nice To Haves

  • CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program

Responsibilities

  • Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
  • Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
  • Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
  • Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
  • Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
  • Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
  • Coordinate surgical and clinical schedules, assist with outpatient clinic flow, assist with coordinating outpatient procedure room cases and supplies, assist with orienting new caregivers, answer patient phone calls, relay messages and information to providers, perform post-op phone calls, provide information to patients based on provider information, and scribe for providers in the outpatient clinic.
