Surgical Technologists, sometimes referred to as scrub techs, assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and Registered Nurses and play a critical role in ensuring quality patient care and maintaining a sterile field. This role offers a hands-on learning environment with opportunities to enhance technical skills and grow professionally each day.

Requirements

Graduate of a Surgical Technology program accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C through the National Center for Competency Training or CST through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

preparing supplies and equipment
setting up sterile tables
performing surgical counts
draping the sterile field
passing instruments during procedures
preparing sterile dressings
cleaning instruments for terminal sterilization
Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
