About The Position

The Surgical Technologist CVOR Team is responsible for assisting in surgical procedures, maintaining aseptic technique, and organizing supplies and instruments. This role involves working with specialized procedures such as neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics. The technologist will also be involved in cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization, assisting the Registered Nurse circulator, and monitoring supply usage and documentation. Additionally, the role includes participating in performance improvement processes, educational opportunities, and potentially serving as a preceptor or clinical resource.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
  • Current certification in Surgical Technology required.
  • 5 years of total operating room experience in surgical technologist role required.
  • 2 years of specialized training in one of the following areas, neurosurgery, and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex ortho, and robotics required.
  • Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to age-specific issues and data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the following age groups.
  • Ability to communication and write.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assists Registered Nurse circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens; assists with all aspects of room turnover.
  • Assigned to heightened specialized procedures: neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics.
  • Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
  • Monitors surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility prior to use and ensures that supplies are used in a judicious manner, charges are documented/submitted accurately and appropriately.
  • Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
  • Attends in-services/staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department related issues and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
  • Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serves as a preceptor, and a clinical resource to others.
  • Assumes responsibility for individual specified unit clinical projects and oversees service lines as needed.
