About The Position

Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs the duties of a primary or secondary surgical technologist in surgical procedures. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

• Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technology Program.
• CPR certification.
• 0 - 6 months related experience.
• Basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Ability to prepare and maintain a sterile field.
• Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation.

• Can serve as a preceptor.

Responsibilities

• Creates and maintains sterile field, anticipates and provides instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery.
• Facilitates patient flow through case turnover.
• Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of operating room.
• Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements.
• Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires.
• Performs high level disinfection.
• Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor.
• Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.
• Responds to and is available for emergency call, if applicable.
