About The Position

Michigan Surgical is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join its full-time clinical team. The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the surgical team who provides quality patient care by providing and controlling the sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical interventions. The role also ensures instruments and supplies are cleaned, sterilized, and available when needed. The position works a steady Monday-through-Friday daytime schedule of five 8-hour shifts, approximately 40–42 hours per week, with no on-call requirements and no weekends. The employee must travel between the Town Center Ambulatory Surgery Center in Troy and Michigan Surgical Utica in Utica as scheduled.

Requirements

Minimum of 6 months of surgical experience.
Current BLS certification.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel or float between the Troy and Utica surgery centers as scheduled.
Strong knowledge of aseptic principles, sterilization, and disinfection techniques.
Ability to anticipate the surgeon’s needs, remain calm under pressure, and speak up confidently about patient safety issues.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain clinical competencies and perform intra-operative care.
Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with patients, physicians, coworkers, and others.
Ability to make frequent judgments and respond to problems, cope with unpredictable situations, stress, and pressure, and manage interactions with emotional patients or family members.

Nice To Haves

Surgical Technologist certification.
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.

Responsibilities

Assemble supplies and equipment for surgical procedures, open sterile supplies, and prepare for operative procedures.
Set up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of surgical procedure.
Apply aseptic principles and demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques.
Assist with and anticipate the surgeon’s needs during procedures while working within the established scope of practice.
Use universal precautions when providing patient care.
Decontaminate equipment, instruments, and supplies according to procedures.
Identify and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Assist with cleaning and maintaining rooms, equipment, and furniture.
Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment.
Follow company and Surgery Center policies and procedures, Codes of Conduct, ethics, compliance, and HIPAA requirements.
Participate in Best Practices, Quality/Risk Initiatives, and other committees to improve patient care.
Inform management of malfunctions in instruments, equipment, or supplies.
Maintain ethical conduct, protect patient health information, report suspected concerns or violations, and complete annual compliance training on time.
Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
