About The Position

MercyOne Dubuque is seeking a part-time Surgical Technician (CST or LPN) to join their team. The Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies, and maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures. This role will primarily involve scrubbing general cases such as general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics, with the possibility of assisting in other surgical specialties. The position adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and contributes to the mission, vision, values, and cultural beliefs of the organization. MercyOne Dubuque is a leading hospital in the tri-states, known for its comprehensive cardiology center, Level II regional neonatal intensive care unit, and a newly constructed Cancer Center. It also offers a trauma center, CARF-accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit, orthopedics, retail pharmacies, palliative care, and various outpatient and community services. MercyOne operates skilled nursing units and a nursing home, and has been recognized as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence four consecutive times.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
  • OR Graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
  • CST certification is required if working in Illinois.
  • LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program.
  • BLS certification.
  • Mandatory Reporter status.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a large degree of independence and accountability.
  • Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.
  • Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.

Nice To Haves

  • CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing the operating room for surgical procedures, including instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintaining the sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Scrubbing general cases which may include general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics.
  • Potentially serving as 2nd, 3rd, or 4th scrub in all surgical specialties.
  • Adhering to MercyOne's performance expectations and defined services.
  • Performing duties in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and cultural beliefs of MercyOne.
