About The Position

Mayo Clinic is a top-ranked healthcare provider known for its patient-first approach and investment in employee well-being. This role is for a Surgical Technologist in the Orthopedic Operating Room. The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. They possess knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and can adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. The Surgical Technologist utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation and technology as a member of the surgical team. The Jacksonville facility features 34 operating rooms, including specialized suites for IMRI and endovascular procedures, utilizing modern equipment and advanced technology. Candidates may be considered for an Advanced Surgical Technologist role based on experience and qualifications, which involves supporting complex procedures, contributing to protocol development, and optimizing workflows for advanced surgical service lines. This role may require coverage for other surgical services and requires living within a reasonable driving distance to meet a 45-minute on-call requirement.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter (unless hired prior to 11/20/2024 at Mayo Clinic in Florida).
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Minimum 2+ years of independent scrubbing experience (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
  • Independently supports advanced procedures in one of the following specialties: Cardiothoracic, Transplant, Neurosurgery, or Vascular, or has cross-trained to work independently in three or more specialties outside of these advanced specialties (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
  • Manage and maintain advanced specialty instrumentation and equipment (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
  • Contribute to protocol and workflow development for new procedures and technologies (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
  • Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may include quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
  • Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call expectations (for Advanced Surgical Technologist role).
