About The Position

North Colorado Medical Center, a leader in healthcare for Weld County and northern Colorado for over 100 years, has a busy 10-bed Labor & Delivery unit providing a personalized birthing experience. As a Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist, you will select and arrange surgical tools, supplies, and equipment during surgery, acting as a scrub tech to provide instruments and supplies to the doctor as needed. You may also provide business support to the department with administrative tasks. Banner North Colorado Medical Center is a 378-bed Level II trauma center and acute care facility. Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current basic life support certification.
  • Where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
  • Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly.
  • Ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.
  • Must stay abreast of new developments in the field.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology.
  • Two years of operating room experience.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring their working order, and reviewing case carts for correctness.
  • Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
  • Anticipates the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery.
  • Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures.
  • Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case carts for processing.
  • Participates in counting of sharps, instruments, and sponges.
  • Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
  • Assists with OR turnover between cases, including stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms.
  • May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks.
  • Follows safety procedures regarding medication labeling, handling of specimens, sharps, time-out procedures, radiation and laser safety, infection control, and instrument assembly/disassembly.
  • Participates in emergency call rotation.
