As a Surgical Technologist in the OR, you will play a critical role in supporting surgeons and registered nurses throughout operative procedures to help ensure safe, efficient and exceptional patient care. Responsibilities include preparing sterile instruments and equipment, setting up surgical tables, assisting during procedures, maintaining the sterile field and supporting instrument decontamination and sterilization after surgery. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on operative experience while making a meaningful impact on patients and caregivers every day. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 5:30PM or 7:00AM – 3:30PM, with on-call requirements. During the 3-month orientation period, the schedule is Monday-Friday from 7:00AM – 3:30PM.

Requirements

Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
OR completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
Certification of either CST or TS-C required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and give specimens to circulator for disposition.
