About The Position

The Surgical Technologist assists with the preparation, processing, and maintenance of supplies and equipment and serves as a member of the surgical team during operative procedures. UCSF Stanyan Operating Room (OR) consists of 8 surgical suites for inpatient and outpatient surgeries. Services include, but are not limited to: Orthopedics, General, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Pain Service, General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, and Podiatry. All patient care team members are responsible for meeting patient needs, demonstrating willingness to learn new skills, and fostering a harmonious work environment in which high-quality patient care and customer service are consistently provided. Team members promote cooperative working relationships with each other, physicians, other disciplines, and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, demonstrating honesty and respect, showing sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback professionally.

Requirements

Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR for healthcare providers
High School Diploma; or equivalent experience
Graduate of surgical technologist training program or equivalent experience
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Surgical Technologist
Scrub experience in at least one of the following services: Ophthalmology, OHNS, Robotics, Urology, Gynecology, OMFS, Plastics

Responsibilities

Preparing Operating Rooms by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning properly.
Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving using aseptic technique.
Set up and maintain sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping according to established protocols.
Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and other supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
Anticipate the need of the surgeon and surgical team to promote efficient workflow.
Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse.
Handle surgical specimens according to facility policy.
Assist with application of dressings and transfer of patients following procedures.
Clean, inspect, and prepare instruments for decontamination and sterilization.
Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
Adhere to infection prevention standards, safety regulations, and facility policies.
