About The Position

We are looking for a tech to join our busy GI Lab. We are willing to consider a GI Tech or Surgical Tech for this role. The GI Lab hours are Monday - Friday, 07:30 - 18:00, with a combination of 8- and 10-hour shifts. This role also includes weeknight, weekend, and holiday on-call per rotation. The pay range for this position is $20.80 - $39.85.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques used in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for various surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment used in the operating room.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • High School Graduate.
  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification issued by SGNA by completing the SGNA Associates Program needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides for a clean, safe and efficient area conducive to optimal patient care.
  • Utilizes aseptic surgical techniques in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for surgical procedures (e.g., assistance with gowning and gloving; preparation and draping of the surgical area; provision of a sterile field, instruments, suture and related materials; anticipation of the Surgeons' needs; passing of instruments and/or supplies; holding of retractors, observing and reporting possible breaks in aseptic technique; and assisting in maintaining a sterile, dry, unobstructed field).
  • Performs all types of procedures and maintains basic knowledge of a variety of procedures.
  • Ensures the environmental disinfection, safety and efficiency of the operating room. This includes setting up the room for each case including moving equipment (i.e., tables, cameras, microscopes, fracture table, and instrument pans), operating the various types of equipment used during operating room procedures, and returning equipment post procedure.
  • Functions as a Second Assistant as necessary.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of equipment and supply problems.
  • Transports patients and/or equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability. This includes checking the working condition of equipment, sterility, and sending damaged items out for repair.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Assists with patient care activities and related services under the supervision/delegation of the registered nurse and/or physician including but not limited to intraprocedural support.
  • Assists physicians with accurate retrieval of specimens, specimen preservation, labeling and transportation of specimens to lab.
  • Assists in initiating and/or collaborating with the team for all safety initiatives such as timeout process, traceability of equipment used, and reporting of safety events.
  • Organizes and prepares procedure rooms and equipment according to each physician's specification, checking and assembling proper instruments and equipment needed.
  • Performs high level disinfection and reprocessing of equipment/scopes in a safe and effective manner based on established standards.
  • Cleans, calibrates, operates and performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control policies and guidelines.
  • Reports and documents equipment repairs.
  • Documents procedures, images, videos and patient charges utilizing the endoscope and ultrasound information systems.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory for unit by informing unit when supplies are needed, stocking supplies, and receiving ordered supplies.
  • Performs various clerical duties which includes answering of phones, filing, data entry, scheduling and compilation of patient records.
