About The Position

The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. This role primarily functions in the scrub role, responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The technologist must possess knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and be able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. They utilize knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation, and technology as a member of the surgical team.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers through the AHA or Red Cross.
  • CST Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Surgical Technologists hired at Mayo Clinic Health System in Southwest Minnesota prior to 10/15/2014 are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.
  • Surgical Technologists hired at Mayo Clinic Health System in Wisconsin prior to 11/20/2024 are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.
  • Surgical Technologists hired at Mayo Clinic in Florida and Arizona prior to 11/20/2024 are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.
  • Enterprise Staffing Pool hires prior to 11/20/2024 are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.
  • Internal transfers to Rochester or Southeast Minnesota are required to have the Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.
