About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Surgical Technologist to provide safe and efficient care to surgical patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The role primarily involves functioning in the scrub role, responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. This position requires knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques and the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the perioperative setting. The Surgical Technologist will utilize knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgical instrumentation as a member of the surgical team. The Jacksonville hospital features 34 operating rooms, including an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite, utilizing modern equipment and advanced technology. Candidates may be considered for either the Surgical Technologist or Advanced Surgical Technologist role based on experience and qualifications. The Advanced Surgical Technologist role supports complex procedures like Cardiothoracic, Transplant, Neurosurgery, and Vascular, and contributes to protocol development, specialty instrumentation management, and workflow optimization. This role may also require coverage for other surgical services and necessitates living within a reasonable driving distance to meet a 45-minute on-call requirement.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Current BLS certification required upon hire.
  • Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date.
  • Minimum 2+ years of independent scrubbing experience (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
  • Independently supports advanced procedures in one of the following specialties: Cardiothoracic, Transplant, Neurosurgery, or Vascular, or has cross-trained to work independently in three or more specialties outside of these advanced specialties (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
  • Qualified applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement.

  • Surgical Technologists hired at Mayo Clinic in Florida prior to 11/20/2024 are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA.

  • Contributes to protocol and workflow development for new procedures and technologies (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
  • Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may include quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
  • Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call expectations (for Advanced Surgical Technologist).
