About The Position

Receives direction from the Operating Room Manager, Supervisor, Specialty Team Leader, and staff Registered Nurse. Works cooperatively with the surgeon, PAs/NPs, residents, fellows, and other allied health staff. Performs delegated activities to assist in the care of the patients in the operating room/procedure rooms. Under the supervision of an RN and in collaboration with the surgeon, the technologist functions primarily in the scrub role. Collaborates on developing best practice protocols and workflows for new procedures and transplants. Is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining specific specialty instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient. Applies and enforces principles of sterile technique implementing unique applications of solution prep and draping of the patient. Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may include quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Current BLS certification required upon hire.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Meets all base level Surgical Technologist qualifications.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of independent scrubbing experience.
  • Documented proficiency via supervisor or preceptor sign-off.
  • Independently supports advanced procedures in cardiac, transplant, neurosurgery, and vascular specialties, or is cross-trained in three or more specialties outside of these advanced areas.
  • One year OR experience required with Completion of Periop 101 or similar course.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Neuro experience preferred.
