About The Position

Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs the duties of a primary or secondary surgical technologist in surgical procedures. This position is identified as a safety sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Use and Patient Protection Act. This statute allows employers to lawfully refuse to hire applicants for safety-sensitive jobs or to discipline or discharge employees who work in safety-sensitive jobs if they test positive for marijuana, even if they have a valid license to use medical marijuana.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) or by the State.
• Certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
• CPR certification.
• 0-2 years of related experience.
• Basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Ability to prepare and maintain a sterile field.
• Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Creates and maintains sterile field, anticipates and provides instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery.
• Facilitates patient flow through case turnover.
• Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of operating room.
• Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements.
• Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires.
• Performs high level disinfection.
• Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor.
• Demonstrates competencies in multiple specialties.
• Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.
