About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to provide safe, efficient, and age-specific nursing care to patients and their families. Interns will assist patients in attaining, maintaining, regaining, and sustaining optimal health status. The role involves functioning in the primary scrub position for procedures where competency has been demonstrated, assisting with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures, and ensuring appropriate instruments and supplies are present and in proper working condition. Interns will also be responsible for providing labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field, performing other duties that support the operative team, and following patient care hand-off protocols. The position emphasizes learning and self-improvement, utilizing a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies. Additional responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards, and adhering to all requirements for safely and securely maintaining Protected Health Information (PHI).

Requirements

  • Enrollment in final year of a Surgical Technologist program (Required)
  • Completion of bachelor’s degree with current enrollment in an accredited medical school (Required)
  • Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation suture, and surgical procedures. (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills are essential. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies (Required proficiency)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care/function in primary scrub position in procedures that competency has been demonstrated.
  • Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
  • Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
  • Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field medication.
  • Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand-off protocol.
  • Involved in learning and self-improvement.
  • Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
