About The Position

This full-time position at the Atrium Health Surgery Center in Huntersville requires a Surgical Technologist III with a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. The role involves assisting in organizing supplies and instruments, cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization, and supporting the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation and room turnover. The technologist will monitor surgical supplies for sterility, document sterilization activities, and participate in departmental improvement processes and educational opportunities. There is potential to serve as a preceptor and clinical resource, and to assist with clinical projects. The position requires the ability to work in an environment with occasional noise and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals, and involves strenuous physical effort including walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. Frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling is necessary, with the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Precise hand and finger dexterity is required for handling instruments and positioning patients. Specific vision and hearing requirements are detailed, along with the ability to work irregular hours, near moving equipment, and in varying temperatures and humidity, with exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist.
  • 2 years of operating room experience in surgical technologist role required.

  • Current certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assists Registered Nurse circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment and proper disposition of all specimens; assists with all aspects of room turnover.
  • Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
  • Monitors surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility prior to use and ensures that supplies are used in a judicious manner, charges are documented/submitted accurately and appropriately.
  • Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
  • Attends in-services/staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department related issues and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
  • Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
  • May serve as a preceptor and a clinical resource to others.
  • Assists in maintenance and completion of individual specified unit clinical projects as needed.
