About The Position

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. This position is part of the Patient Care Team and requires participation in time-out procedures. The role involves monitoring operating room conditions, preparing patients for surgery, and requires knowledge of SPD Sterile Room procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant [CSFA (NBSTSA)] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
  • Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
  • Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting 2-3 years required
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
  • Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience 3-5 years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in operations.

  • Monitors and continually assesses operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
  • Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
