About The Position

Under the supervision of the surgeon, the Surgical Tech First Assist (ST-FA) provides additional assistance to the surgeon in the Operating Room beyond what is normally provided. As defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), surgical assistants provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other interoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safer operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition, the ST-FA may perform in the role of the Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room as needed. This role coordinates the care of the surgical patient with other team members, maintains patient rights and confidentiality, and performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy's mission, values, and guiding principles.

Requirements

High-School Diploma or GED Required.
1-2 years of scrub experience required.
American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Must understand English both written and spoken.
Must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

2+ years of full-time scrub experience with complex and routine cases preferred.
If n on-certified, will train the right candidate.
If certified, successful completion of the Tech in Surgery - Certified (NCCT) exam with certification for LPN and Military candidates.
Graduate with a Degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
