Surgical Technologist extern
About The Position
The Surgical Technologist Extern provides clinical services related to the perioperative care of the surgical patient to meet the needs of patients, families and significant others. Customizes care for the unique needs of each patient and their surgical procedure, the surgeon’s preferences and the care setting. This care is provided under the direct supervision of Surgical Technologists and RNs. The ST Extern role is a temporary position designed to facilitate the transition from student to graduate which is mutually beneficial to the student and organization. During this education focused program, the Extern is provided with a preceptor and is not counted toward the staffing of the unit.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in Surgical Technologist training program
Responsibilities
- Performs skills and procedures as per the department competency checklist under direct supervision of Surgical Technologist or Registered Nurse
- Provides quality, cost-effective care through individualization and collaboration with team members.
- Provides patient care that meets the growth and development, cultural diversity and special needs appropriate to the patient population served.
- Takes responsibility for professional growth and development.
