About The Position

Seattle’s surgical community needs well-trained, confident Surgical Technologists. You’re the person who makes that happen — not just by teaching, but by building bridges between our classroom and the city’s best ORs. In this role, you’ll have real autonomy: choosing clinical partners, shaping student rotations, and directly mentoring future STs. You’ll be known across Seattle hospitals and surgery centers as the leader who prepares graduates ready to scrub in on day one.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology (CAAHEP/ABHES or military)
  • 3 years OR scrub role (last 5 years) OR 3 years teaching experience
  • 1 year ST instructor experience preferred
  • Current NCCA-accredited CST credential
  • Active state/federal credentials as required
  • Strong communication + MS Office proficiency

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build Seattle’s clinical network: Secure new clinical sites and contractual agreements with local hospitals & surgery centers (Swedish, UW Medicine, Virginia Mason, ASCs). Maintain strong relationships with site instructors — you’re their partner, not just a visitor. Coordinate student scheduling, orientation, and clinical objectives for each site.
  • Coach students to success: Monitor student progress and intervene early with support, not pressure. Meet with at-risk students to identify barriers (transportation, skill gaps, scheduling) and problem-solve together. Maintain an 80% student success rate — we’ll provide you with data tools and advising support to make this achievable.
  • Ensure clinical excellence: Visit clinical sites regularly to evaluate student performance. Collaborate with site instructors to ensure rotations are educationally effective. Review competency evaluations and clinical records. Maintain grades and transcripts per policy.
  • Teach & develop curriculum: Prepare lesson plans and instruct students in surgical technology methods and techniques. Coordinate clinical & didactic education; recommend changes to the Program Director. Help revise the clinical education plan based on real-world feedback from Seattle’s ORs.
  • Shape the program’s future: May assist the Program Director with student admissions. Provide input on equipment, simulation needs, and evolving industry standards (robotics, minimally invasive surgery).
