Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
- Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
- Current BLS certification required upon hire.
- Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date.
- Meets all base level Surgical Technologist qualifications.
- One year of Operating Room experience is required.
- Minimum of 1+ years of independent scrubbing experience.
- Documented proficiency via supervisor or preceptor sign-off.
Nice To Haves
- Cardiothoracic Operating Room experience preferred.
- Independently supports advanced procedures in cardiac, transplant, neurosurgery, and vascular specialties, or is cross-trained in three or more specialties outside of these advanced areas.
Responsibilities
- Provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon.
- Functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
- Possesses knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and is able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting.
- Utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation and technology as member of the surgical team.
