About The Position

Surgical technologists are essential members of the surgical teams at Munson Healthcare hospitals. They use clinical judgment, critical thinking, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills to support patient care in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Apprentices collaborate with specialty surgeons, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses across surgical specialties that include cardiovascular, neurology, eye, and endovascular surgery. The apprenticeship program is for Surgical Technologist students from Baker College, Kirtland Community College, and Northwestern Michigan College. Apprentices earn while completing clinical hours in the operating room. The program offers a $5,000 after-tax milestone bonus and a pay increase after the first clinical. After passing the exam, apprentices receive an additional $5,000 after-tax completion bonus and move into a Certified Surgical Tech position. Participants commit to two years at Munson Healthcare.

Requirements

Be a Surgical Technologist student at Baker College, Kirtland Community College, or Northwestern Michigan College.
Successfully pass the exam to qualify for the Certified Surgical Tech position and completion bonus.
Commit to two years at Munson Healthcare.
Meet Munson Healthcare vaccination or lab-confirmed immunity requirements for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella, and receive an annual flu vaccine or have an approved medical or religious exemption.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with specialty surgeons, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses as part of the operating room team.
Complete clinical hours in the operating room as part of the Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship Program.
Support surgical teams in delivering patient care across surgical specialties.
