About The Position

Bartlett Regional Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technician to join their Surgical Services team. This full-time position involves performing a range of perioperative duties, focusing on aseptic technique and patient safety. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring instrument sterilization, anticipating surgeon needs, and assisting with patient preparation and post-procedure turnover. The Surgical Technician has the authority to halt procedures if sterile technique or patient safety is compromised. For the Surgical Technician 2 role, this includes serving as a subject matter expert, team leader in specialty areas, providing training and mentorship, and contributing to operational and clinical improvements.

Requirements

  • Surgical Technician 1: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Surgical Technician 1: One (1) year of surgical technician experience that included working in service areas such as: general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology (ENT), urology, orthopedics.
  • Surgical Technician 2: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Surgical Technician 2: Two (2) years of surgical technician experience that included working in service areas such as: general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology (ENT), urology, orthopedics.
  • All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical Technician 1: Experience in obstetrics, endoscopy, or ophthalmology
  • Surgical Technician 1: Completion of an accredited surgical technician, surgical technologist, or internal technician program
  • Surgical Technician 2: Experience in obstetrics, endoscopy, or ophthalmology
  • Surgical Technician 2: Completion of an accredited surgical technician or surgical technologist program

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs a full range of perioperative duties.
  • Supports surgical teams while maintaining strict adherence to aseptic technique and patient safety standards.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Ensures proper instrument sterilization.
  • Anticipates surgeon needs throughout procedures.
  • Identifies and halts procedures when sterile technique or patient safety is compromised, providing guidance to correct issues.
  • Assists with patient preparation, intraoperative support, and post-procedure turnover.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and team leader in one or more specialty areas (Surgical Technician 2).
  • Provides training, mentorship, and precepting to staff (Surgical Technician 2).
  • Supports complex surgical procedures (Surgical Technician 2).
  • Contributes to operational and clinical improvement through participation in education, process improvement initiatives, policy development, and equipment and supply decision-making (Surgical Technician 2).
