The Surgical Scrub Technician assembles supplies for surgical procedures, maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments, and assists with room preparation in Labor and Delivery (E5). UAMS Labor and Delivery is located in the Harry P. Ward Clinical Tower. The unit includes 14 labor, delivery, and recovery rooms; four triage observation beds; two operating room suites; a three-bed recovery area; and two neonatal stabilization rooms. It provides high-risk obstetrical care for patients from across Arkansas and performs approximately 300–330 deliveries per month. The labor, delivery, and recovery rooms allow patients to labor, deliver, and recover in the same birthing suite with family support. When stable, newborns may remain with their mothers to promote bonding.
