About The Position

This role involves preparing and organizing the operating room with necessary instrumentation and equipment, assisting surgeons during surgical procedures, and maintaining a sterile environment. The Surgical Technician will also be responsible for identifying and preserving specimens, reporting any unusual occurrences or safety hazards, and contributing to a positive work climate. Other duties include maintaining patient rights, participating in emergency drills, professional development, and assisting physicians with procedures and wound care.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
  • BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • NBSTA Certification as a surgical technologist preferred.
  • Experience preferred but new grads will be considered.
  • Certificate from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting / or eligibility to certify.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize the operating room with instrumentation and equipment.
  • Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment.
  • Assemble supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist in clean-up of rooms between procedures and at the end of the schedule.
  • Monitor and maintain instruments, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
  • Maintain proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and AORN / AAMI standards of asepsis.
  • Participate in the sponge, needle, and instruments count with the circulating nurse as needed.
  • Identify and preserve specimens received during surgery.
  • Report any unusual occurrences, breaks in technique, malfunctioning equipment, any unsafe condition or potential hazard to the supervisor.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Maintain the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of the patient.
  • Participate in the OSC emergency, fire, and disaster drills.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Follow all OSC Policies and Procedures.
  • Attend required in-services and educational programs.
  • Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Assist physician in performance of procedures or test in clinical setting.
  • Assist physician in wound care, application of splints and dressings, and dressing changes.
