About The Position

This role involves preparing and organizing the operating room with necessary instrumentation and equipment, assisting surgeons during surgical procedures, and maintaining a sterile environment. The Surgical Technician will also be responsible for identifying and preserving specimens, reporting any unusual occurrences or safety hazards, and contributing to a positive work climate. Other duties include assisting physicians with procedures, wound care, and dressing changes, while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledge of surgical positioning of patients.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • NBSTA Certification as a surgical technologist preferred.
  • Experience preferred but new grads will be considered.
  • Certificate from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting / or eligibility to certify

Responsibilities

  • Prepares operating room for surgical procedures, assembling supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Assists in clean-up of rooms between procedures and at the end of the schedule.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining instruments, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
  • Maintains proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and AORN / AAMI standards of asepsis.
  • Participates in the sponge, needle, and instruments count with the circulating nurse as needed.
  • Responsible for identifying and preserving specimens received during surgery.
  • Reports to supervisor any unusual occurrences, breaks in technique, malfunctioning equipment, any unsafe condition or potential hazard.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Maintains the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of the patient.
  • Participates in the OSC emergency, fire, and disaster drills.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Follows all OSC Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends required in-services and educational programs.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Assists physician in performance of procedures or test in clinical setting.
  • Assists physician in wound care, application of splints and dressings, and dressing changes.
