About The Position

A Surgical Technician assists in the care and preparation of surgical patients as assigned and directed under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural diversity. Assist in the care and preparation of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Requirements

Proficient oral and written communication
Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program
Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

1 year hospital surgical experience preferred.
Scrub Tech Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
Prepares surgical suites as required for specific procedures.
Assist in the care and preparation of surgical patients.
Cleans and prepares surgical suits between cases.
Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
Gives appropriate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and significant others.
Prepares preference cards for new physicians and/or procedures.
Utilizes ongoing assessment data and notifies physician/surgeon of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
Is flexible and available for an on-call schedule.
Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
Displays accountability for actions and decisions for the total patient care process.
Completes assigned daily duties.
Accepts reassignment to other units if necessary.
Follows expected work practices.
Displays thoroughness and accuracy of work.
Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.
Well organized, accepts assignments willingly and accomplishes them quickly.
Anticipates problems and suggests solutions.
Helps as needed with duties not specifically assigned.

Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate, teach and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, & Geriatric

Good mental health and emotional maturity
Good personal grooming and hygiene
Ability to acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice.

Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.

Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows whether to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
