About The Position

The Surgical Technician plays a vital role in assisting with surgical procedures by performing scrubbing duties. Responsibilities include preparing for surgical procedures and supporting the operative team, as well as preparing and maintaining sterile supplies. Housing options may be available, subject to availability and within walking distance to the facility.

Requirements

High school diploma required.
Minimum of one year of experience in an operating room as a Surgical Technician, or completion of Surgical Technician training required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Nice To Haves

Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Create and maintain a sterile field.
Inspect sterile items for contamination prior to use.
Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the procedure begins.
Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition before use.
Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
Assist in scrubbing all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of individual surgeons.
Provide support for specialty surgeries independently, including sports medicine and trauma.
Assist the RN with recording operative charges and documenting hardware used during procedures.
Collect specimens and cultures, verifying source and proper tissue identification with the surgeon.
