About The Position

Sole Hire, LLC has been retained by a respected postsecondary institution in Rockford, IL to lead the search for a full-time Surgical Technology Program Chair. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surgical technologist ready to step into academic leadership and shape the future of the profession through mentorship, curriculum oversight, and program management. As Program Chair, you will lead an ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program, balancing teaching responsibilities with supervisory leadership over faculty and staff. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on mentoring others, holds high standards for student outcomes, and wants to bring their clinical expertise into the classroom and beyond.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a surgical technology role

Responsibilities

  • Teach within the program on a regular basis, with frequency based on student and faculty load
  • Supervise faculty and education staff, including annual performance evaluations, classroom observations, and ongoing mentorship
  • Ensure faculty files remain complete and compliant with state and accrediting body requirements
  • Confirm all teaching faculty meet state and accreditation qualification standards
  • Monitor student retention metrics monthly to meet accrediting body and company benchmarks
  • Plan and lead faculty in-services and departmental meetings
  • Provide academic advising to students within the program
  • Work one evening per week to support evening students
  • Recommend curriculum and syllabus updates to the instructional design team
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new faculty members
  • Evaluate faculty performance using student feedback, outcomes, and classroom visits
  • Coordinate at least two advisory council meetings per year
  • Supervise externships and externship instructors
  • Review transfer credit requests and recommend approvals
  • Serve on or chair curriculum committees as needed
  • Administer proficiency examinations as required
  • Partner with career services to support student placement after graduation
  • Other duties as assigned
