The Surgical Technician PRN delivers safe patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and according to facility policy and procedure. This role involves preparing for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available, setting up sterile tables, assisting with draping, passing instruments to the surgeon, maintaining sterile technique, preparing dressings, and assisting with cleaning and room preparation for subsequent patients. The technician is also responsible for handling specimens, performing counts with the circulator, participating in procedural checks, and assuming other related responsibilities as assigned. The role requires knowledge of disease processes, perioperative care, hospital organization, universal precautions, and maintaining a safe environment. Essential skills include excellent interpersonal communication, the ability to scrub various orthopedic cases, enforce aseptic technique, and provide excellent customer service. The position demands strong attention to detail, physical stamina for long work hours, the ability to manage stress and mental fatigue, flexibility in scheduling, and the capacity to multitask and support teammates. The working environment is a normal and emergent clinical setting with potential exposure to various hazards, and requires good visual acuity, the ability to transfer patients over 100 pounds, and perform various physical movements.
